Immigrants

Immigrants have engaged me as my artistic inspiration for the last few years. I believe immigrants have diversified our country and made it the palette of colours we draw our humanity from. I hope this collection reveals the immigrant quilt of personality, whose fabric is the passion, intimacy, and humour of each subject’s life. I hope that I have done justice to their true feelings and humanity and to the friends, books and various other sources that provided me with their images.

When I paint from these pictures, I want the expressions and gestures I portray to reveal the fullness of personality that touched me, and hope touches a chord in each viewer. I try to reveal the honesty of character I see camouflaged by the banality of the poses.
